Your new house has an existing home security system
Many times after you purchase a home, you’ll see that the previous owners left a security system. All the alarms and cameras function well, are hung in the right places, and are ready to go. In this instance, all you might have to do is to call and establish a new service contract. A Vivint professional will still show up to make sure there are no usability issues, and they might offer suggestions on where you should replace bad outdated components. It's a fast visit, and you can have your alarm monitoring set up without paying for any new alarms and cameras -- unless you get some new devices.
The outgoing owners can transfer an existing Vivint contract to your family for a one-time set-up cost to make the transfer easier. If the outgoing residents downsize to an apartment or retirement community, you keeping the home security contract may be a condition of the sale.
You need to move and take your existing devices with you
You may need to take your old smart devices with you to a new place when you move. Luckily, it's fairly simple to transfer, as modern components are wireless. You can remove each component by yourself or contact a professional expert to come and dismantle everything. Then a pro will hang the same devices -- and any new devices you want -- in the new house. And your home security contract will remain the same.
